What can I do in the store?

The Equipment Store could be described as being the 'heart' of the MPC. It facilitates the booking and use of media related rooms and equipment for both students and staff.

What’s in it?

The equipment comprises mostly of loan equipment to facilitate course requirements, such as: camcorders, digital still cameras, digital voice recorder, musical instruments, lighting kits plus all the associated peripherals e.g. tripods and microphones.

How can I access the equipment and facilities?

We have recently changed the way students access equipment. You will now be able to access equipment based upon your course requirements. For example if you are on a Film and Video course you will automatically have access to camcorders and tripods.

Your student or staff ID card needs to be produced at all times for equipment hire and room bookings. Neither Room nor equipment bookings can be taken over the phone.

What happens if I’m late?

Equipment returns must be on time otherwise you will be subject to a fine of £5 per day per item up to £50 and your MPC Store and Mac Network account will be frozen for one week after the date of the fine payment.

If you are unable to collect equipment on the start date of the reservation you may lose your reservation.

If you are more than 30 minutes late for a room reservation you may lose your room.

What happens if I lose or damage loan equipment?

You will be asked to complete a ‘Reason For Default Form’, in accordance with the equipment loan agreement Terms and Conditions, you may be charged the following:

  1. A late return fine of £5 per day per item up to £50, if the equipment is not returned on time.
  2. The full replacement value of the equipment if it is not returned, or is returned as broken or faulty.

Is there anything else I should know?

The Library at the Docklands Campus has Panasonic DVC-15 Mini-DV camcorders for loan and Apple Final Cut Pro edit suites which can be used by all UEL students and staff. Contact Peter Hall for more information.
